Currently, I'm working as an Electromechanical Design Engineer for Millipore's BioProcess division. My primary responsibility is to develop electronic test equipment and to support European CE marking of our systems. Millipore's customers, the pharmaceutical industry, use these testers to verify that the filters they buy from Millipore are integral before and after the filtration process. The filters are used to sterilize pharmaceutical products, to separate biological components and to reduce viral contamination.
Prior to working in R&D, I worked in Millipore's Quality Systems
department. The R&D work is much more fun, though.
You can send me an email at work: Michael_Joens@millipore.com.
Prior to Millipore, I held the position of Quality Assurance Manager at Abiomed Cardiovascular.
Before Abiomed, I worked in various Quality Engineering functions for Siemens in Germany and in the U.S.
I received my education in Germany. German schools are famous for providing students with a solid and well-rounded education. I attended high schools in Baden-Württemberg (Gymnasium Schramberg) and in Bavaria (Hardenberg Gymnasium Fürth), As is the tradition in Germany, the subjects covered a wide range, including four languages (German, English, Latin and French), sciences, arts, psychology, and much more. The Hardenberg Gymnasium has a Java-enabled picture of their teachers, and I find it fascinating how many of my teachers are still there. I graduated there in 1977, and the picture looks as if it was taken 20 years ago, the faces have not changed one bit.
I received my degree in Electrical Engineering (German Nachrichtentechnik) from the Georg-Simon-Ohm Fachhochschule in Nuremberg, Germany.
I am certified as a Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Manager (CQMgr) and Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) , as well as Regulatory Affairs Certified (R.A.C.).
